Be kind

“I’m grand thanks! How are you?”
Several times a day, people ask us how we are and for the most part, they get the same response: “I’m fine”, or “I’m grand”. We ask them how they are and they’ll say the same.
People tell us they are fine and we don’t give it a second thought. Unfortunately, we are all guilty of it. It’s easy to say that you’re fine, even when you’re the complete opposite of fine, and people will believe you.
The reality is that it’s simple to lie about how we are feeling and we really have no idea about how anyone else really feels. We are impressively talented when it comes to hiding our feelings, even to those closest to us. Realistically, we have no idea of anyone else’s mental state, unless they speak openly about it, and in my opinion, not enough people do.
Obviously, we’re not about to pour our problems onto the innocent shop assistant who is just being polite, but it’s important to remember that there’s always someone willing to listen.
Because we never know what someone else is going through or what struggles they are facing, it’s important to be kind towards other. If you think someone you know is struggling, encourage them to talk about what’s on their mind.
Sadly, many people are unwillingly to talk, but there are other ways to spread positivity and cheer people up. Even a smile, a few nice words, a compliment or any positive message can help a person a lot more than you’d think. A negative attitude is powerful, but a positive spirit is even more powerful. After all, it doesn’t cost anything to be nice. If you are friendly towards others, chances are they will be friendly towards you. As the saying goes ‘treat others how you wish to be treated’.
There is so much negativity in the world, the least we can do is spread positivity amongst each other.
And if you can’t be kind, then be quiet.
