Planning to see Avengers Endgame this April?

If you plan on going to see Avengers Endgame this April and don’t have the time to watch the entire series, we’ve got you covered with a rundown of what’s already happened in the MCU whether it’s catching up or refreshing your memory. Here’s what happened so far;

1. Iron Man 1

This was the film that started the franchise back in 2008. Considering it was the first movie, of 22 by the time Avengers Endgame is released, there is no better way to rewind than from the beginning. In hindsight, the climactic part of the movie would be the end credit scene where Nick Fury appears and references a bigger universe and mentions the Avengers. Pretty safe to say 11 years later we’re still hooked on the Marvel comic universe.

2. The Incredible Hulk

This movie was another introduction to members of The Avengers. As Bruce Banner is on the run from the army, he attempts to control his anger, when enraged Banner changes physical and mental form. Banner knows what the army’s intentions are, they want to replicate his DNA in order to create more Hulks. During the final scene General Thunderbolt Ross is drinking in a bar, he is met by Tony Stark who informs Ross that he is looking to put a team together.

3. Iron Man 2

The first sequel of the series, Iron man 2 follows on six months from the first Iron Man. The movie shows the many companies trying to copy the Ironman suit technology, with only one succeeding. With new enemies on the horizon, Stark must prevent the technology used to build Iron Man from falling into the wrong hands. Again the post credit scene is giving a clue as to what the next film in the franchise will be, it shows a crater in the desert with a hammer in the centre of it. Which leads us to number 4 on our list.

4. Thor

The introduction of the Norse God Thor and his first visit to Earth. Asgard is featured heavily in this movie and will be important in later movies. Thor is sent to earth by his father Odin after Thor finds himself in a fight with the frost giants. When Thor is gone Odin falls into a deep sleep and Loki takes the throne. Thor’s friends Sif and the Warriors three go to earth to bring Thor back. Loki hears of this and sends the Destroyer. Thor must fend off the Destroyer and go back to Asgard to take back the throne for his father.

5. Captain America The First Avenger

Most of this movie is set during the Second World War. Steve Rogers wants to join the army and fight for his country, but he fails the army physical. Eventually, he is passed by Dr Abraham Erskine, but he is still not allowed to join the ranks. Instead, he is enlisted in the super soldier program, where he goes through a severe physical transformation and is known as Captain America. He is sent to take down Johann Schimidt, a Nazi officer who has a mysterious relic, the Tesseract, in his possession. While losing his best friend Bucky Barnes in pursuit of Schmidt, Cap must crash land into the ice on a last ditch attempt to bury the tesseract. The plane would be found 70 years later, with Cap frozen in the ice, preserved in time.

6. Avengers Assemble

This was the first time the Avengers appeared on screen together. By this point, this was the sixth film in the franchise. This was the film that would start the crossover between Marvel characters within the MCU. Loki, who has been sent by Thanos(more on him later), is on earth to try to destroy the Avengers. The Avengers must set aside their differences in order to become Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

7. Iron Man 3

The final instalment in the Iron Man trilogy. The movie picks up after the fallout in New York from the Avengers, with Tony having PTSD from when he went into space in order to shut the black hole. After a string of bomb attacks by the Mandarin, Tony flees to safety but his armour is not fully functional and ends up in a small town, quickly finding a new friend and apprentice in 10-year-old Harley. Stark tracks down the Mandarin in order to infiltrate his lair and bring him to justice. After he and Rhodes destroy half a shipyard Stark destroys all of his suits.

8. Thor The Dark World

The second Thor instalment features a battle which sees the Asgardians and their allies take down Malekith who is after the Aether (which is also an infinity stone). He thinks that Jane Foster, Thor’s human love interest, has it. In order to help defeat him Thor enlists the help of Loki.

9. Captain America The Winter Soldier

In this movie Captain America finds out that S.H.I.E.L.D is littered with Hydra agents. From within the Secretary of Internal Security Alexander Pearce was organising a system that would make people live in fear. This plan was to three hellicarriers to eliminate threats. After Nick Fury is pronounced dead, Agent Romanoff is the only one he can trust and enlist the help of Sam Wilson. They must catch the winter soldier as well as stopping the hellicarriers before they get off the ground

10. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1

This movie sets up a lot, as it confirms what Nick Fury had said about a bigger universe and the infinity stones. This movie was the 10th in the series and very different to what had been seen before. The teams consist of criminals, who end up fighting with each other and find themselves in jail. This is also the start of Thanos’s plan to take over the universe using the six infinity stones. Thanos sends one of his henchmen Ronan to retrieve it. The teams get out of jail in order to prevent Ronan from finding the infinity stone.

11. Avengers Age of Ultron

In a country known as Sokovia, the Avengers raid a Hydra base in order to take back Loki’s septor. They encounter two Hydra test subjects Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, who have superpowers. When deciding to use the Stone in the septor as part of a global defence system, artificial intelligence becomes its own identity known as Ultron. Instead of wanting to save the world, Ultron now wants to take out the human race. The Avengers must adapt to a new challenge to take on Ultron.

12. Ant Man

When former thief Scott Lang get released from prison, he moves in with his former cellmate Luis. Unable to find a job Scott, Luis and their crew rob a house. In the house, he manages to break into the safe and what appears to be just an old motorcycle suit, but he would later find out that it’s the antman suit, developed in the 1980s by Hank Pym the owner of the house. Pym is horrified when he discovers his protégé Darren Cross is interested in selling the technology and making more suits for military purposes. It turns out Pym manipulated Lang into stealing the suit through Luis, so that Lang can get the new modified suit from Cross’s company without raising any alarms.

13. Captain America Civil War

This shook things up a little as the differences within the Avengers started to emerge and take form into two very distinct sides, Captain America or Iron Man. To be honest its a fight that hasn’t ended as the two leaders haven’t seen each other since the end of the film.

14. Doctor Strange

Dr Stephen Strange, a world-renowned neurosurgeon, gets severely injured in a car accident. Strange hears of this mystical magic that has the healing power to help him regain the use of his legs. He goes and seeks the power in order to get back to work. Strange studies under the Ancient one. He must learn how to stop a satan-like creature in Dormammu.

15. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

After Rocket steals something that they were trying to protect, the Guardians ship crash lands on a nearby planet. There Peter Quill finds his father. Quill is thrilled until he finds out that he is one of thousands of his father’s seedlings but he is the only one that has managed to inherit his power. The guardians now need to fight Quills father and escape the planet before it self destructs.

16. Spiderman Homecoming

After the events of Civil War, Peter Parker has become your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman. He discovers criminals selling weapons, he tries to stop them but gets caught by the vulture and saved by a vacant Iron Man suit. Parker argues with Stark about going after them again. He returns to school life in time for the homecoming dance. He learns that the Vulture is going rob a jet which is transporting avenger’s technology and that he must be the one to stop him.

17. Thor Ragnarok

Thor returns to Asgard to Loki find as king, he finds Odin who is dying. Odin tells Thor that Ragnarok (Asgard’s Destruction) is coming and his death will allow his firstborn Hela to be free from prison and come back for what is rightfully hers. After being sent through the bifrost Thor lands on a junk planet called Sakaar, where he is found and traded in to be a gladiator only to put in a fight against The Hulk. They must work together to get back to Asgard and defeat Hela before Ragnarok happens.

18. Black Panther

Black Panther takes place in the fictional African country, Wakanda. Using the metal known as vibranium, they have managed to create advanced technologies and hid themselves from the rest of the world. The movie follows Tchalla after his father dies, he is next in line to be king of Wakanda, but his long lost cousin returns to battle for his place as king.

19. Infinity War

Endgame will be a direct sequel to Infinity War, so if you watch any of them make sure its this one. This movie has every hero from all the previous movies united to confront Thanos who has managed to get his hands on all six infinity stones. The Avengers do everything they in order to stop, but let’s just say they didn’t and what did happen is very very bad but very interesting to see what’s next.

20. Ant Man and the Wasp

Ant Man settles probably the biggest question going into it where were they during the events of Infinity war. Scott Lang has been put on house arrest. Hank Pym is in search of how he can get his wife out of the quantum realm but what they need gets stolen by “ghost”. They must go to Pyms former partner Bill Foster, in order to get his wife out. As well as that the end credit scene explains where they are now.
