2017 has been a whirlwind for Irish music lovers. From smaller acts such as Vulfpeck and Mac DeMarco making the rounds at Vicar Street, to global stars like U2 and Guns N’Roses making a stop in the capital, we were spoiled for choice this year.
But there was one act that topped them all. For a good concert you need a few things; a good venue, an energetic crowd and of course, most crucially, a good act. Not all bands can pull it out of the bag when it comes to playing live. Yet according to Ticketmaster’s recent survey, one band did just that.
And that band was Coldplay. Yes, Chris Martin and the lads brought their “A Headful of Dreams” to Croke Park during the summer to thousands of delighted fans. The concert was everywhere on social media before, during and after the show, so it’s little wonder that it pipped the top spot.
According to HotPress, Coldplay beat out stars such as Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams and Kings of Leon. Longitude and Electric Picnic also made the list, but a weekend of musical goodness obviously did not compare to one night with Coldplay.
The full list of shows, voted by the public, are:
1. Coldplay – Croke Park
2. Electric Picnic – Stradbally Hall
3. Guns N’Roses – Slane Castle
4. U2 – Croke Park
5. Picture This – 3Arena
6. Kings of Leon – 3Arena
7. Ed Sheeran – 3Arena
8. Longitude – Marlay Park
9. Robbie Williams – Aviva Stadium
10. Miss Saigon – Bord Gais Energy Theatrec Picnic – Stradbally Hall
Of course, the majority of the shows that made the list were in Dublin in some of the biggest venues in the country so they did have a slight advantage. What is interesting is that a musical made the list. Last but not least saw Miss Saigon claim a spot on the list.
Do you agree with the list?
