The Saga continues in the galaxy far far away with Rey, Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker and the mysterious Snoke. The response to the film has been largely positive. In an interview at the world premiere, Director Rian Johnson dedicated the film to Carrie Fisher – General Leia – who passed away in December 2016. “Once the audience sees her performance in this movie, she’s going to be there in all our hearts,” he said. “It’s bizarre not having her here tonight. She would be the life of the party.”
Fans have been taking to social media to share their thoughts on Episode VIII, with some referring to it as “so very different, exciting, surprising and so much emotion”. The reviews may delight studio chiefs after news broke of a rocky start to production on the Han Solo spinoff over the summer.
One of the surprises for me was the appearance of our own Domhnall Gleeson, who is no stranger to a dynasty having followed his father Brendan, and brother Brian, in to the acting universe.
But back to the important stuff, fan reviews – Twitter has been buzzing with excitement; fans are saying they “laughed, cried, screamed” and had the time of their lives, stating Johnson “pulled it off, making what might be the best star wars movie ever”.
The studio clearly agrees as they have signed Johnson to a further three movies, surprising some who thought JJ Abrams might be steering the ship for Episode IX and Episode X. There is also whispers that Quentin Tarantino is penning a Star Wars storyline with Abrams, set for release in 2020 after the release of Tarantino’s 9th film, a story about Charles Manson.
Star Wars Episode VIII, The Last Jedi, also stars Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley. George Lucas co-wrote and produced the latest film in the franchise directed by Rian Johnson.
