Already well known in their Waterford hometown, Cider Wasps are hoping to grow in Ireland’s music scene and beyond.
The four piece band from Dungarvan is made up of brothers Danny (vocals and guitar) and Tommy (drummer and vocals), who started the band five years ago when they were just 12 and 14, and have since been joined by bassist Colin and guitarist Stephen.
The lads, who write all their own songs, released their first single “Lúnasa” from their new EP called “Here” a few weeks ago. “Me and Tommy mostly write the lyrics, and then the lads put in their own music,” explained lead singer Danny.
With all of them going to different colleges and Danny doing his leaving cert, they all admit that it’s difficult to meet up and practice regularly, but there is definitely no sign of them slowing down.
“The next step will be festival gigs. We wanted to get into them this year, but had nothing to give them in. We have the EP now and a few songs that they can listen to,” says Stephen.
The band is hoping to be performing at the likes of Indie and Electric Picnic next summer.
The boys have supported bands such as Walking on Cars and the Original Rude Boys in the past, but say their dream would be to go on tour with Biffy Clyro or Kings of Leon, who their music is both heavily influenced by. Their other influences include Ben Howard, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse.
Cider Wasps will be playing in NUIG Thursday, November 26 so go in for a listen if you’re around. If not, like the band on facebook to keep up to date with gigs:
