Today Twitter went full dark, no stars, as new broke of the death of cult leader and convicted murder Charles Manson’s death. The 83 year old died of natural causes after serving a prison sentence from 1971 onwards having been charged with the murder of multiple victims including actress Sharon Tate and her unborn child, along with five of her guests. Manson masterminded the cult killing spree and today Twitter is not in mourning but rather celebrating the long awaited death of one of the most dangerous men in the U.S. But of course there were those who mourned his death, most notably users who had mistaken him with singer Marilyn Manson and posted images of the band frontman with the caption #ripcharlesmanson. Further proof that some millennials will jump on just about any band wagon out there.
 

2. The Queen and Prince Philip celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary:

New photos of the Queen and Prince Philip have been released to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary: the platinum anniversary. The royal couple is the longest monarchical duo to be married and in power in history. From their wedding in 1947, the then 21 year old princess married the more senior 26 year old lieutenant as the nation awaited a new era to revive the monarchy. Twitter users were celebrating the occasion with few looking to Prince Philips mismatched suit and trousers wondering if this couple has so many resources would it be possible to put the Prince in a matching Jacket and trousers for the anniversary photos at least.

 

3. Paris Hilton claims she invented the selfie:

Yes, this was one of the top trending hashtags on twitter this morning. The queen of celebrity scandal and reality TV has taken over ownership of starting one of the most wildfire trends to grave our generation: the ‘selfie’. Hilton tweeted out a picture of herself and teen popstar of the 2000’s Miss Britney Spears with the caption, "11 years ago today me and Britney invented the selfie". Unfortunately, there is no concrete proof to back up Hilton’s claims. Talk about a slow news day.

 

4. Harrison Ford comes to the rescue after a car crash:

The Hollywood heartthrob, action man and all round bad ass saved a woman from a crash today. The woman's car was run off a California highway when Ford helped the woman escape her vehicle which veered off route 126 in Ventura County. The actor played a real life hero today and was trending on Twitter for all the right reasons with many users comparing his heroics to the news of Manson's death, in that today was a good day for humanity.
 

5. Serena Williams leaves people in tears with her message to female athletes:

In her latest ad with Gatorade the tennis champion is speaking to her baby Alexis and says ‘I wont mind if you never choose to pick up a racquet, but I beg you: In this game of life, please keep playing no matter what." The message is simple but powerful and speaks to all girls out there on another level, to never stand down, to never stop fighting for what you want no matter what it is, that not all children must follow in their parents footsteps as long as they follow their own.
