Travelling Man single review
North inner city Dublin band, The Original Rudeboys, continues their rise to notoriety in 2012 with second single, ‘Travelling Man’, which is due for release on Friday 9th March.
Since the band began last March, they have gained a significant following amongst Irish and international music fans, with their first single, ‘Stars in My Eyes’, reaching #3 in the iTunes chart. They also have a growing number of viewers (over 750,000) on their YouTube channel, which helped to launch their career last year.
After spending the summer performing at festivals such as Oxegen, Leeds and Reading, the band have come back with ‘Travelling Man’, which was co-written and produced by collaborator Jake Gosling, who has worked with artists such as Ed Sheeran. ‘Travelling Man’ also includes 3 bonus tracks.
The single echoes the band’s original sound, achieved by mixing the guitar (Rob) and dominant ukulele (Walshy), as well as using guitarist Rob’s soulful vocals and rapper Neddy’s hard rhymes. While vocalist Neddy’s thick Dublin accent seems out of place at first, it quickly flows into the indie melody with Rob’s mellow vocals and creates a unique sound that is reminiscent of Ed Sheeran. Their sound has been identified as indie hip hop, a definite change for the Irish music scene.
The lyrics are centred on a popular theme of their personal experiences as a band and their feelings during touring. In fact, the song was written while they were at the Reading and Leeds festival.
All in all, ‘Travelling Man’ has definite potential and gives a taste of things to come from.
The Original Rudeboy’s debut album ‘This Life’ will be released on Friday 26th March, with a massive over 18s birthday gig at Dublin’s The Grand Social on Saturday 31st March. Tickets are €14 including booking fee.
