Chloe Chistie caught up with emerging star Dan Owen.

Dan Owen recently gained viral success after a clip of him performing Bob Dylan’sThe Ballad Of Hollis Brownwas posted on Reddit, since then has gone from strength to strength with a UK headline tour and an opening slot for Birdy on her European tour.

Dan is a Guinness fan and I grabbed a moment of his time while he’s here performing with Birdy and Icelandic band Kaleo in Dublin. A humble man Dan seemed shocked by his own success his second EP was released on the 26th, Open Hands and Enemies and Dan’s latest hit single ‘Made to Love you’ was one of the heartfelt tracks on the EP.

When I asked Dan where he got the inspiration for this track whose video depicts a young man in an abusive relationship, he said the sentiment was taken from a friends experience who was being abused by his girlfriend at the time. This inspired Dan to bring the message that this can happen to men and women should be brought to the forefront. The single has gained a huge following for Dan with listeners inspired by his music to share their story of abuse. Not only do Dan’s lyrics share an important message but also his music has a rare power and energy that could probably shake windows if he tried hard enough (I’m sure he has).

Dan is the kind of man that replies to every Facebook message and tweet and will be returning to Ireland for a headline tour in December so catch him before he’s as big as Guinness.
