This weekend, our contributors checked out the best movies currently streaming on Netflix. Blathin de Poar reviews Anchorman

Anchorman is an indisputable classic for college students.  The sheer quotable genius it comprises means you will have a ready supply of one-liners that will form an essential part of your comeback repertoire.

This is the perfect film for days you’re hungover, stressed, sad, or in need of entertainment.  In fact there really is no bad time to watch this film unless you’re not in the mood to laugh, in which case I advise you sit to this one out champ.

The film is set in 1970s San Diego – which thanks to Anchorman we know was discovered by the Germans in 1904 who named it San Diego. This of course means ‘a whale’s vagina’ in German.

Will Ferrell stars as Ron Burgundy, San Diego’s top rated news anchorman.  He’s kind of big deal, people know him.  He has a voice that could make a wolverine purr and suits so fine they made Sinatra look like a hobo.

However his career faces crises when the station decides to add “diversity” to the newsroom by hiring horror of horrors a woman!  Not only that but a woman who is intent on both spurning him and has her eye firmly on his job. It isn’t long before they are embroiled in a very bitter battle of the sexes.

There is a good reason why the internet nearly exploded in joy when the sequel was recently announced and if you haven’t seen it, I advise you to rectify that immediately. So, in honour of the influence it’s had in our daily lives, and to show you why it should influence yours, here are some of the top things Anchorman taught us.

Statistics – “They've done studies, you know, 60% of the time, it works every time”

The answer to any awkward romantic question – “I love lamp”

The best chat up lines – “I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party”

The true meaning of diversity – “Diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era”

How to impress a woman “The only way to bag a classy lady is to give her two tickets to the gun show” [This is ideally done whilst kissing your biceps]

Some scientific facts about women and bears - “Their periods attract bears, Bears can smell the menstruation”

The true meaning of horror – “It’s so damn hot, Milk was a bad choice”

How to express sadness – “I’m in a glass case of emotion”

How to blame someone else when you don’t know what’s going on – “You know I don’t speak Spanish”

The best one liner to win any argument - “You are a smelly pirate hooker, why don’t you go back to your home on Whore Island?”

So to summarise watch it and prepare to laugh and learn some important life lessons. That’s it from me, you stay classy Campus.ie!
