If you are paying tuition fees for your college education then the chances are that you are entitled to tax relief on those fees.

- Tax relief at the standard rate of tax is available for tuition fees paid in respect of students attending part-time courses approved for tax relief.
- Tax relief is available for full-time undergraduate courses in approved private colleges both in Ireland and in other EU member states. Approved undergraduate courses for the purposes of tax relief on tuition fees must be of at least two years duration.
- Tax relief is also available on approved full-time and part-time postgraduate study since the 2000/2001 academic year.
Tax relief is available in respect of fees paid for training courses in information technology and foreign languages if certain conditions are met:
- The course involved must be less than two years duration
- It must result in the awarding of a certificate of competence (and not just a certificate of attendance)
- The course must be approved by FÁS.
The maximum tuition rate for which relief can be claimed is €5,000.
