A manhunt is underway after a raider, armed with a metal bar, held up a cash-in-transit van and escaped with a sum of money this afternoon.

Gardaí are investigating the robbery that occurred outside the Bank of Ireland on Mobhi Road, Dublin 9 shortly after 3.30pm this afternoon.

Independent.ie has learned that the security van was parked outside the bank when a silver car pulled up and one occupant, wearing a balaclava and carrying a metal bar, forced a security guard to hand over a cash box.

The raiders fled from the scene.

Their vehicle  was subsequently located burned out at the rear of the nearby Bon Secours Hospital.
