Ireland’s largest student website Campus.ie is running a major journalism competition with the Irish Independent for a second year in a row.
Once again, Campus.ie’s top three contributors will be offered paid internships with the Irish Independent.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Ireland’s best student reporters and writers to publish their work to a large audience on a national platform and potentially work in one of Ireland’s largest-selling daily paper,” said Campus.ie editor Conor McMahon.
Valerie Loftus, who was one of last year’s winners, said: “The competition gave me an incredible opportunity to work hard and get my foot in the door of a national newspaper using my passion rather than experience.
“I’ve learned more about journalism this summer than I ever have before starting, thanks to the competition. I’ve been completely thrown into the heart of the newspaper and given the same responsibility…as the full-time reporters,” she added.
As well as the internships, every week the editor will select the best article on Campus.ie and publish it on Independent.ie as The Weekly Read.
To be eligible for the internship competition and to submit articles for The Weekly Read, contributors must submit at least 12 articles per semester (that works out to one a week) to Campus.ie during the 2013/14 college year from the week they begin contributing.
