With the Olsen twins turning 30 this week, our Fashion Editor Laura Sheehan takes a look back at how these trend setters have impacted the world of fashion.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen turned 30 this week. How they are 30 already I will never know. Two Of A Kind was one of my favourite shows as a child.
They were famously known for the whirlwind trips they made in their movies, such as Passport to Paris, When in Rome and Winning London, where they jetted around the world with what seemed to be an unlimited amount of money and minimal supervision - the ultimate dream of teenage girls.
In real life though, the Olsen twins are well-known for their sense of fashion and their brand The Row. The iconic twins have taught us a thing or two when it comes to style.
Sometimes (or all of the time) wearing flats is just better
They have showed girls everywhere that we do not have to wear high heels to make our outfit a success.
They have often been photographed on the red carpet boasting chic flats instead of hobbling along through the discomfort of heels. They tend to be big fans of loafers and brogues.
Every season is sunglasses season
If the Olsen twins have taught us anything, it's that you can wear sunglasses no matter what the weather.
Whether it's pouring rain or the sun is shining, a big pair of sunglasses only ever add to your outfit. They are effortless.
Black is never going out of fashion
They are notorious for always wearing black and who could blame them. It's flattering, timeless and, above all, if you sweat no one is going to see it.
Black is no longer the colour you wear to funerals, but the colour you wear daily.
It's okay to be unique
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have taught us one very important lesson - that it's okay to be different.
We don't all need to dress the same and to be honest people who have a unique dress sense are usually much cooler.
Style doesn't mean that we have to follow the crowd and wear what's 'on trend’.
Happy Birthday Olsens!
