Forget the tweezers – Lauren Ennis takes a look at the latest brow beauty procedure: microblading.

It’s safe to say that eyebrows have become one of our most significant facial features, and whether you like them arched, thick, thin or fluffy there are multiple ways of achieving the ‘perfect brow.’

From make-up products to tattooing them on you won’t be stuck for ways to achieve the look that you are going for and now to add to your options there is a new natural, semi- permanent way of getting your dream brows.

Introducing microblading, the eyebrow trend that is taking the beauty world by storm.

What on earth is it I hear you ask? Let me fill you in.

Microblading is a semi-permeant, almost painless, highly specialised procedure that gives you bolder, fuller eyebrows without the hassle of threading, plucking, waxing or tattooing.

The concept, which originated from Asia, is conducted by using small sharp needles to implant pigments underneath the skin using an expendable microblade, which allows the specialist to make highly detailed strokes that appear like normal eyebrow hairs. We have everything you need to know below.

Can anybody get it done?

The simple answer is yes, anybody can get it done. However, people who have had eyebrow tattooing done would not be the best candidates for microblading as the scar mark from tattooing may cause different results than what would appear on non-treated brows.

How long does the treatment take?

As it requires a lot of detail the process is never hurried. It generally takes about two and a half hours to complete.

How long will it last?

The colour can last up to two years however it gradually lightens over time due to skin rejuvenation. Results can vary depending on each individual. Age, skin type and lifestyle will impact how the treatment lasts.

It is essential not to scrub or pick your eyebrows after the treatment and it usually requires a re-touch after about a week to ensure that the colour is evenly spread throughout the eyebrows.

To maintain a fresh look, it is recommended that you get a colour boost treatment every 6-12 months.

Can you get it done in Ireland?

Yes, Araya Beauty in Dublin have introduced this treatment to their salons.

How much does it cost?

Microblading can cost anywhere between €250 to €1000 depending on the individual treatments.

So there you have it, a new way to achieve those beautiful brows! It may seem a bit extreme and a bit on the pricey side but it is sure to be a trend to watch out for.
