Christmas fever will pick up at DIT next week, with real life Reindeer set to be on campus on both December 2nd and 3rd, beginning in Grangegorman.
Organised by DITSU’s Vice President for Events, Ciara Murnane, the Reindeer will then move on to Aungier Street on the 3rd.
Murnane said that with the academic calendar changing many exams to before Christmas, the festivities should give everyone a lift.
“On the second of December we’ll have real reindeer in Grangegorman. On the third it’s real reindeer in Aungier Street.
“I’m so excited. It’s going to bring such an atmosphere to the campus. With having the exams before Christmas people are going to be a bit put out by that so hopefully this will help cheer them up,” Murnane said.
Although the Reindeer will only be in two of the campuses, Murnane insists the others won’t be left out.
“We’re hitting Rathmines, Linen BIMM and Cathal Brugha Street with a mini Christmas festival.
“There will be mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas jumpers will be encouraged. We’re doing a big pass the parcel in Cathal Brugha Street and there’ll be a really good prize, of course,” said the VP for Events.
Murnane is hoping that the events will also bring in some more money for DITSU’s chosen RAG charity, the Laura Lynn Foundation, and she believes they need to make students more aware of its importance.
“We’re hoping it will bring in some money for Laura Lynn. We’ll have some people shaking buckets. Reaching the target of €1 per student has been a bit slower than I hoped but I hope the on-site stuff will bring in a bit of extra donations. We may need to really get the message out to the students about Laura Lynn and what an amazing charity it is,” she explained.
There is also set to be a Christmas pub crawl and a Christmas Ball in the coming weeks.
