The NUI Maynooth students leaving today to represent Ireland in the Microsoft Imagine Cup in Seattle

Four hardworking students from NUI Maynooth will travel today to Seattle where they have qualified to represent Ireland in the prestigious Microsoft Imagine Cup.

Students Donal McClean, Jack Gallagher, K.C Grant and Matt McCann have already battled more than 170 other teams from 76 different countries to make it into the top 35 teams heading stateside to the cup.

Their entry ‘Access Earth’ is an app that provides information on buildings accessibility for the mobility-impaired. Their app runs on a volunteer network, collecting data from a number of cities around the globe, with new data being added all the time.

These students will compete in three categories: ‘Innovation’, ‘Games’, and ‘World Citizenship’ for a chance to win $50,000 plus a boot camp-style experience designed to really move their projects forward.

Once in Seattle, the four young students will receive expert advice from the likes of innovative technology organisations such as Microsoft Ventures, Microsoft YouthSpark and PAX.

On August 1, they will join the 34 other finalist teams to face judges including, Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, Code.org Co-Founder, Hadi Partovi, and Reddit General Manager, Erik Martin.

We wish the team the very best of luck running the green flag for us!
