GMIT have launched their SU Heroes campaign today, ahead of the Christmas period.
The campaign, in association with St Vincent de Paul is centred on fundraising and the collection of new toys for underprivileged families and sick children in hospital around Christmas time.
This week will kick off the campaign, with a Sky Dive, Christmas Market and Christmas party, while Reindeer are set to feature at a specially organised Kiddies Christmas party, on Thursday.
GMITSU will also hold a raffle to raise funds for the charity, with a Lava LT-7010 Tablet provided by Campus.ie as one of the prizes.
The launch began today with a bucket collection in Eyre Square and GMITSU President, Sam O’Neill said that the local community can benefit massively from charitable donations from students.
“We are in a position where we represent over 7,000 students who can make a massive difference to the local community,” said O’Neill.
“With the state the country is in at the moment and unemployment levels as high as they are, we all know somebody who will benefit massively from this campaign,” O’Neill explained.
Those interested in donating are encouraged to drop in toys or money donations to the GMIT SU office.
