DCU has always been a college renowned for its dedication to making the most of its students’ social lives. With the Nubar transformed into a nightclub every Tuesday night, almost every week dedicated to a different theme with different events (Engineerin

Most societies organise at least one, reduced cost, trip abroad a year, taking the DCU student experience to new levels. And now, with the newest batch of DCU Fresher’s entering the campus for the first time this week, DCU Student’s Union have outdone themselves once again, delivering, instead of the typical Fresher’s Week, Fresher’s Fortnight.

With a solid two weeks full of events to choose from, we’ve decided to make it as easy as possible for all you DCU fresher’s by picking out the events that you can’t afford to miss!

DJ Fresh- Wednesday 19th, The Venue, 9.30p.m

While the daytime Freshers Fair starts on Monday, from 11 (Bouncy castles! Ice cream! Go check it out!), DJ Fresh is the first big nightlife event of the semester and is sure to be one of the biggest nights of the year. Tickets go on sale Monday morning, in the Student’s Union, and be sure to buy them early, because this is one night guaranteed to sell out! And if you’re not in too much of a state, why not drag yourself out of bed for the free fry up they’re so kindly offering to help you beat that hangover the next morning, from 9.30 to 11?

All- Ireland Final- Sunday 23rd, NuBar, 1p.m

Come up to the NuBar to watch Donegal take on Mayo, maybe a few cheeky drinks and stick around for the free BBQ on offer.

Smash Hits Tribute- Monday 24th, NuBar, 8p.m

Venture to the NuBar for a night filled with your favourite 80’s and 90’s cheesy anthems, as preformed by Smash Hits. Have a few drinks, and sing along to Spice Girls as loudly as your little heart pleases. Bonus points for horrendous dance moves!

Hang Out in the Hub- Tuesday 25th, The Hub, 12a.m

Spend your day wandering around the Hub, dropping into all the events on offer. If you’re not the easily embarrassed type, wander into the Venue from 12 to 2, for the SHAG Show, and hang around till 3, when Irish boy-band Keywest take over the NuBar for an acoustic session, to help you unwind. Then, from 8p.m that night, the legendary Des Bishop invades The Venue with his latest stand-up show, which promises to have you all in hysterics. Tickets are €10.

Iron Stomach- Wednesday 26th, The Venue, 12.30p.m

DCU ESoc continues their tradition of turning students all around campus off their lunches with this annual challenge. Essentially a fight to see who can keep down the contents of their stomach for the longest (Believe me, no-one had ever lasted that long.), ESoc will have your stomach churning as you watch them fed competitors some of the most vile things you will ever see. Brilliantly entertaining, but a strong stomach is needed.

Freshers Ball- Wednesday 26th The Hub, 9.30p.m

The annual Freshers Ball is back, and this year, the theme is Fresholympics! Prepare yourself for mini-events, an opening ceremony, and many themed outfits! Always an amazing night, it’s an event every DCU Fresher should get to!

To Arthur!- Thursday 27th, The Hub, 3p.m

To help you recover after the last hectic fortnight, DCU’s Hub will be transformed into a free mini-spa from 12a.m, with everything on offer from manicures, pedicures and massages!  Then, when you’re fresh as a daisy, head on over to the NuBar to celebrate the man himself with a few pints. With performances by The Raglans, the winner of The Voice, Pat Byrne, and many more, it’s the perfect way to wind down your Freshers Fortnight!
