USI warns that students will fight cuts to maintenance grant scheme

Around 800 second year students have been cut from the Student Grant Scheme because of changes to income limits in the eligibility process.

University Times reports that the change to the eligibility process has left 800 second year students ineligible for the maintenance grant.

Figures for other year students have not yet been released, but grants body Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), has announced that it is on schedule with processing applications following last year’s errors.

The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has said that students are “ready and equipped” to fight cuts. It has called on students to protest in their constituency offices.

USI President Joe O’Connor has expressed anger at the cuts, emphasising how they directly affect the most vulnerable students in the country.
