It can be tricky to know what to do for Halloween when big towns and cities have so much to offer. Here Lynda Hennebry gives us a list of things you can do this week in Carlow.
Halloween is my favourite day of the year. The minute the 1st of October hits, to me it’s Halloween, and this year even though I’m a college student, it’s no different.
If you were to ask me what to do back home in Tipperary for Halloween I could write you a list the length of my arm.
When I moved to Carlow, I began to panic about what I would be able to do the week building up to Halloween, and trust me, the line-up is pretty impressive.
The official Halloween week in Carlow begins on Monday 26th right up until October 31st, and with Carlow IT students having no midterm break, we’re all looking for some fun, spooky things to do.
So here’s a list of things you can do to make the most of Halloween in Carlow.
Wednesday, October 28th - IT Carlow Fancy Dress Ball in The Foundry and The Tower
Two of the town's hotspots for a night out are The Foundry and The Tower, so this year they’re both hosting a fancy dress ball for what is set to be the second biggest night out on Halloween week.
With 90% of the Carlow population heading out Wednesday night, it’s the perfect excuse to dress up in your costumes, get the gang and head into town.
There’s also so many prizes to give away on the night, worth up to €200 - so dress to impress.
Doors open at 11pm and admission is €7.
Friday, October 30th - Pre-Fancy Dress Halloween Ball
If you plan on staying in Carlow over the Halloween weekend, then Friday night is going to be huge with The Foundry hosting its own Pre-Halloween Ball with DJ Fudge.
It's fancy dress again with huge prizes on the night, so be sure to go all out.
Doors open at 11:30 pm and admission is €5.
Saturday, October 31st - Halloween night
Halloween night in Carlow will be mayhem, but it’s set to be the best night out of the week. Once again there is a fancy dress ball hosted by both The Foundry and The Tower.
The Foundry will have DJ Michael Byrne, whilst The Tower will have Point Blank. The worst part of the night is choosing which club to go for! There’s also prizes of up to €300 to be won.
Doors open for both venues at 11pm and admission is €10.

27th - 31st October - Huntington Castle Ghost Tours
And finally, you want to do something for Halloween that doesn’t include hitting the town? No problem.
Why not pluck up the courage and go for a ghost tour in Carlow’s most haunted location, Huntington Castle?
These guided tours last forty minutes and bring you around the entire castle hunting for ghosts. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but Halloween is the time to be scared.
Tours begin at 4pm every day and cost €11.95 per person.
