Five Reasons why Milan is the perfect city break this summer

The fashion capital of Italy is increasingly becoming a popular tourist destination. Not to be overshadowed by historical Rome or the canals of Venice, it has so much to offer from beautiful architecture to historic landscapes and of course, great shopping. 1. The Cathedral

An iconic site of architecture built with pink-hued white marble from the quarries of Lake Maggiore, it boasts as one of the biggest and extravagant buildings of Gothic era in Italy. Situated in the heart of city in the Piazza del Duomo, it is truly an incredible and beautiful site to see as you emerge from the underground Metro, especially at night when it is lit up. If the weather is gracious you can take a trip to the rooftops where you can admire a panoramic view of the city, as well as the incredible monuments of several saints.

A hidden gem in Milan, it is just two metro stops away from the city centre. The amiable canals, the several authentic Italian restaurants and cafes as well as the lively nightlife ensure it is not a place to be missed when visiting Milan.

3. The History

Milan is a historical city with several areas of interest; the Castello di Sforzesco di Milano (Sforza Castle) is a great place to delve into Italy’s most recent history. Take a stroll amongst the grounds where you can visit the Porte Sempione, the triumphal arch which dates back to the 19th century.

4. Leonardo Da Vinci

An unmissable experience when in Milan, the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci (National Science and Technology Museum of Leonardo Da Vinci) is the largest science museum in Italy, dedicated to the Italian artist and scientist. You can also visit the World of Leonardo, an interactive exhibition where several replicas of Leonardo’s famous contraptions as well as manuscripts, digital restorations, and reconstructions are featured.

Milan is recognised internationally as one of the world’s most important fashion capitals, along with Paris, New York and London. It would be a crime to miss out on the high street styles of Gucci, Versace, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana (just to name a few).
