Irish actor Aiden Gillen stars in experimental rock band Sigur Rós’s latest video.
The new video for the ambient song ‘Ekki Múkk’ is taken from a 12-part instalment of films called Valtari Mystery Film Experiment. The project is inspired by the band’s 2012 album Valtari.
The band have given a dozen filmmakers the same modest budget and asked them to create whatever comes into their head when they listen to the album.
“The idea is to bypass the usual artistic approval process and allow people utmost creative freedom,” the band says. “Among the filmmakers are Ramin Bahrani, Alma Har’el and John Cameron Mitchell.”
The piece featuring Aiden Gillen – who has appeared in The Wire, Queer as Folk and Love/Hate – is the tenth instalment of the project, and was directed by filmmaker Nick Abrahams.
Fans have also been invited to create and submit their own videos.
“We have invited fans, filmmakers and video directors to create a video for one of the songs from Valtari,” the band says. “The winning video, announced October 8, will receive an official place in the Valtari Mystery Film series.”
