Oh! Would you look at that, it’s almost summer! That time of year when people plan on hitting the beach and drowning themselves in sun-cream even though they’ll get sun-burned anyway. Just stop for a second people, I have a question. Do you believe you are beach body ready? What even is a “beach body”?
People are somewhat divided into three categories. Those who will stop at nothing to get the perfect toned beach body, those who try and give up after a week (me!) and those who literally don’t bother.
I tend to agree with the last category. We all are who we are and it makes zero sense to change how we look only to lie on a beach and expect people to look at us and fantasize over having a body that good. Maybe that does happen but come on people, drag yourself back to reality and out of the clouds. If you want to get a bikini body then do it for yourself, not for other people to stare at on your Instagram feed.
While we here at Campus.ie advocate for what’s on the inside, if you do want to get yourself “ready” for the beach, here are some tips to help you feel a little more confident:
Step 1: Do not pressure yourself into doing anything you don’t want to.
Don’t run if you hate running, or eat Brussels sprouts if they’re your least favourite vegetable. Get active doing something you enjoy, like going on walks or dancing like a fool and eat only your favourite fruits and vegetables. It’s your body, do what makes it happy.
Step 2: Have a good routine set out for yourself.
A routine can help you make sure you have time to do all the things you need to do, like study, eat, and clean, but also ensures you have time to relax and do the things you enjoy. Having time set aside for making a healthy dinner or going for a walk will make it all the easier.
Step 3: Eat well.
Chocolates and sugary foods would not be recommended but don’t deny yourself a nice treat. Life is all about balance and moderation. Try and get your 5-A-Day and eat as healthily as you can throughout the day, but if you’re craving a little bit of sweetness, go for it – guilt free.
Step 4: Get plenty of sleep.
You’ll need to have the energy and motivation to exercise! Sleep is necessary in restoring the body so getting your 8 hours is just another step in feeling more confident.
What if you don’t follow these steps and don’t look like a swim suit model by June? Simple, just put a bikini on, smile and have fun. You don’t need to have a “perfect” body to have a bikini body.
