Save vs splurge: primer

When primers first took over the makeup industry I deemed them an unnecessary luxury (how wrong I was). Naturally, curiosity got the best of me. I jumped on the bandwagon and bought my own.

For a reasonable few months I kept an opinion that primer didn’t actually do anything, because the drugstore ones I was using, didn’t.

Benefit’s ‘The POREfessional’ was all the rage with beauty guru’s and magazines. I figured if it didn’t work, nothing would. (Also Rihanna used it and I was about 15 at the time, so that meant everything to me).

I now believe that it’s the best primer on the market. It does exactly what it says on the tin; blurs pores and creates a smooth, long-lasting base for foundation.

However the tiny 22ml tube it comes in, runs out fast, and at €34, it’s not cheap to be replacing regularly.

When I saw my mum bought NYX ‘Pore Filler’ a while ago the old curiosity came back for a visit. I tried it (sorry mum) and immediately noticed the similarity to the ‘POREfessional’ in both texture, and colour. It continued to impress me in both finish and lasting power.

The ‘POREfessional’ has a slightly thicker consistency so you might find yourself using more of the ‘Pore Filler’ at any one time. Luckily, it is a much more affordable €15.99 from selected pharmacies and Penny’s nationwide.

With that all said, it’s now up to you whether to save or to splurge – either way you won’t be disappointed.
