London life can be a lot to take in. It’s on a constant high speed and seriously loud volume, and while the fast pace is exactly what I love about this city, there are times I just need some peace and quiet.
My local Fitness First gym offers a free class for first time users so I decided to make the most of my day off and take them up on the offer. My class of choice was yoga and I’m so glad I braved the cold morning to try it out.
As the class started, the noises of the city soon faded away and I found my haven among the madness. All about breathing, yoga encourages you to relax and be at one with your surroundings.
“As you exhale, feel your back melting into the mat as all the thoughts you came in with today melt away,” we were told – it worked.
The past couple of months have been so busy with the move, interviews, graduation and generally settling into life in a new country.
It takes a lot of effort to be constantly on and making an effort, meeting new people and finding your way around, so some sort of quality “me time” is the best thing to get a hold on it all.
Yoga brought me back to myself again. It made me relax and process everything that’s happened. I went into the class all tight and wound up, but left completely relaxed.
For anyone who’s in a busy job, has recently moved or is just looking for some form of escape I would definitely recommend yoga or any kind of exercise class really.
It’s not only good for your body, it’s great for your mind and perfect for your soul!
